Frequently asked questions
The Toyota Proace has been on the market since 2016 and shares its platform with the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumpy. The model is available in three body lengths: Compact (L1), Medium (L2) and Long (L3), each with different roof heights. There is also the Proace City, a more compact van based on the chassis of the Peugeot Partner. For passenger transport there is the Proace Verso, which offers up to nine seats. In terms of engines, the first generations were mainly equipped with a 1.6-litre diesel engine, later replaced by a 1.5-litre (120 hp) and a 2.0-litre (145 or 177 hp). Since 2021 there is also a fully electric variant, the Proace Electric. Curious which version you have? The exact specifications help determine the market value when selling.
The Proace City is available as a van with a payload of up to 800 kg and a load volume of 3.3 m³ in the short version, and 3.9 m³ in the long version. These are popular with city delivery services and self-employed professionals. The 'large' Proace can have up to 6.6 m³ of cargo space depending on the wheelbase and a maximum payload of 1,400 kg. The choice between a diesel or electric model affects the residual value, especially now that low-emission zones (LEZ) in cities are becoming stricter.
The electric Proace has a WLTP range of about 330 km and is ideal for deliveries in inner cities with zero-emission requirements. Opkoper Bedrijfswagen buys all engine variants, including the electric models. Due to the rapid evolution of electric vans, the trade-in value can fluctuate faster than with diesel versions. We take into account the current market demand and battery condition to determine a fair price.
Besides model year and mileage, various equipment options and parts can significantly influence the selling price of your Proace. A well-documented service history at a Toyota dealer or recognised garage is worth its weight in gold. Buyers looking for a used model will check: air conditioning (manual or automatic), cruise control, a tow bar (for trailer use), rear parking sensors or a reversing camera, navigation and a Bluetooth car kit. Extra doors on the right side or double rear doors are desirable for tradespeople who often need to load and unload.
A factor that can lower the value is a missing or partially completed service book. Especially when it comes to the timing belt of the 1.5D engine, which should have been replaced on time. Model-specific points of attention for the Proace include the AdBlue injector and the diesel particulate filter (DPF) on diesels; problems with these result in a lower valuation. A lack of air conditioning or a damaged cargo area (dents, scratches, torn lining) also reduces attractiveness. A neat, complete and originally maintained Proace clearly yields more.
Other plus points: metallic paint, alloy wheels, towing capacity in the documents, heated seats and a DAB+ radio. Even a tow bar that has been professionally installed can make a difference of several hundred euros. On the other hand: a non-working air conditioning costs buyers money, and a worn clutch or turbo at high mileages puts them off.
Despite the Toyota logo, the Proace is technically identical to the Peugeot Expert/Citroën Jumpy, which means it shares the strengths and weaknesses of the PSA group. The 1.6 HDi (until 2018) is known as a reliable workhorse, but can suffer from a clogged EGR valve and a wearing turbo with poor maintenance. The later 1.5 BlueHDi engine (from 2018) has challenges with the AdBlue injection system and a timing belt that runs backwards in the oil bath chamber. The latter requires special oil and a strict maintenance schedule; exceeding the interval can cause the belt to break and cause engine damage.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel is the most robust option, with fewer known problems and a quieter running culture. Nevertheless, you should also watch out for the particulate filter and the AdBlue unit in heavy city traffic. The clutch and flywheel can also be due for replacement around 200,000 km with intensive use and towing. In summary, the Proace is a reliable partner, provided you do not neglect maintenance and proactively address the known issues. When selling, a recent service and an accident-free history can increase the resale value by several thousand euros.
The electric Proace has much simpler maintenance, but the battery capacity can decrease over time, which affects the range and therefore the trade-in value. Fortunately, Opkoper Bedrijfswagen also buys electric models and we take the remaining battery health into account.
