Frequently asked questions
The original Toyota C-HR appeared in 2016 and immediately stood out with its bold design. This generation was facelifted in 2019, improving the infotainment system and adding new trim levels. The main engine options are a 1.2-litre turbo petrol with 116 hp, a 1.8-litre hybrid (122 hp) and later a 2.0-litre hybrid (184 hp). The 1.2 turbo has become rarer, while the hybrid versions became increasingly popular, especially as company cars due to their low CO2 emissions. The C-HR was optionally available with all-wheel drive on the 2.0 hybrid.
Interior features: a high dashboard, small rear window and limited rear legroom, which was often seen as a drawback. Nevertheless, the finish was above average and the seating position comfortable. For sellers, it is good to know that facelift models with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto fetch more than early examples without.
In 2023, a completely new C-HR came on the market, with even sharper design and more advanced hybrid technology. The latest models offer a choice of a 1.8-litre hybrid (140 hp), a 2.0-litre hybrid (197 hp) and, for the first time, a plug-in hybrid (223 hp). There is also a 2.0-litre turbo for some markets. The dimensions have grown slightly: length about 4.36 metres, width 1.83 metres and height 1.56 metres. Boot space is now 388 to 446 litres, depending on the version, an improvement over the previous 377 litres.
If you want to sell your recent C-HR, that is an interesting option for us. We actively buy model years 2023 and newer, especially the plug-in hybrid because of the tax benefits for business owners.
Toyota offers several equipment levels: Active, Comfort, Dynamic, Executive, Style, GR Sport and more. Versions with a large navigation screen, leather upholstery and JBL audio system increase the value. Even the base version with air conditioning and cruise control remains sought after as a reliable city SUV. Regardless of which C-HR you own, we can provide an accurate valuation based on model year, mileage and equipment.
The 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine is known for EGR valve fouling, which can lead to power loss and irregular idling. This often occurs in models that make many short trips. Regular maintenance can prevent this. If the EGR valve needs to be replaced, it costs several hundred euros. Such a repair history does not have to hinder the sale; we also take over cars with known problems, although it does affect the market value.
Early models (before 2019) in particular had a slow and sometimes glitchy infotainment system. Later software updates improved this, but some owners continued to complain about connection problems with Apple CarPlay. This has been resolved in the second generation. Do you still have an older model? Let us know at the time of sale whether the updates have been carried out, that makes a difference in the assessment.
Some C-HR owners report paint that is prone to stone chips on the bonnet and door handles. The metallic colours in particular can flake under the influence of stone chips. This is cosmetic and easy to repair, but if the damage spreads, corrosion can occur. We buy cars with such imperfections, but a well-maintained paint finish increases the value.
Due to the coupé-like roof, the rear entrance is narrow and legroom is limited for tall passengers. This is not a technical defect, but a design choice. Less suitable for families with teenagers. This can play a role in resale, but the distinctive styling compensates for a lot.
Toyota's hybrid battery is known to be extremely reliable and typically lasts longer than 10 years or 200,000 km. Yet potential buyers wonder whether the battery is still good. Toyota gives up to 10 years warranty on the hybrid components, provided annual maintenance. A full service history is therefore worth its weight in gold.
At higher mileages (from 120,000 km), shock absorbers can show a bit more play. This manifests itself in duller sounds over bumps. Check this before the sale, because a fresh set of dampers can positively influence the selling price.
In 2024, almost 70% of newly sold Toyota C-HR models were hybrid. The demand for hybrid drive is also high on the second-hand market, partly due to the favourable tax scheme for company cars. A hybrid C-HR benefits from lower BIV and road tax in Flanders, and also enjoys advantages in Brussels and Wallonia. That makes it a smart choice for entrepreneurs and private individuals who want to save on fuel costs.
If you sell your hybrid C-HR, the residual value may be higher than you expect. The 2.0 hybrid (184 or 197 hp) in particular is in demand because of its smoother performance and low consumption. The 1.8 hybrid (122 or 140 hp) offers an excellent price-quality ratio and is often sought for commuting.
Many C-HR drivers are self-employed or employees with a company car. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) of the new generation currently benefits from a very favourable deductibility (up to 100% in 2024, then phased out). The 'regular' hybrids (HEV) also still have a high deduction, although it is lower than PHEV. Are you planning to replace your PHEV with an electric car? Then we offer a smooth takeover so that you are not left with a residual value.
Toyota hybrids are known for their low maintenance costs. There is no starter motor or alternator that can wear out, and the brake pads last longer thanks to the regenerative braking system. All this contributes to a stable value on the second-hand market. Want to know exactly what your hybrid C-HR is worth? Request a free valuation.
