Frequently asked questions
The Peugeot 308 has three generations. Each generation has its own market position, which affects the trade-in value. Do you know the model year of your 308? Read on to find out what you can expect.
The very first 308 replaced the 307 and came as a hatchback, SW and CC. In this category, mileage plays the main role. Examples with less than 150,000 km are rare and perform above average. Note: the 1.6 THP petrol engine from before 2011 has a weak point with the timing chain. If you drive such a model, you are in a stronger position if recent maintenance has already been carried out. We buy every first-generation 308, regardless of mileage or minor defects.
This is the most popular 308 among Belgian company car drivers. The PureTech petrol engines and BlueHDi diesels offer good fuel economy and low CO2 emissions, which is beneficial for company car tax. Many models are equipped with an automatic gearbox and the i-Cockpit dashboard. A well-maintained example from 2018 or newer can still have a good residual value, especially in Allure or GT-Line trim. The 1.5 BlueHDi diesel is known for AdBlue problems; if that has already been resolved, mention it in your request.
The newest 308 is available as a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric (e-308). Because this generation is still young, technology drives the price. Plug-in hybrids with low benefit-in-kind taxation are in demand on the used car market. If you want to sell your 308 while the battery warranty is still valid, that provides extra confidence. A car that is still in near-new condition and has all driver assistance systems on board logically fetches more.
The engine of your Peugeot 308 largely determines the asking price. This overview helps you get a realistic valuation.
The 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder is light, economical and, with 110 or 130 hp, powerful enough for most journeys. However, watch out for the wet timing belt on model years up to 2022. A car that has just had a belt replacement is more attractive to buyers. The 1.6 THP petrol engines from the first generation have a sportier character, but require a watchful eye on oil consumption and chain noises.
Diesel is still interesting for those who drive many kilometres. The 1.6 HDi and later 1.5 BlueHDi are real mileage eaters, but the 1.5 BlueHDi has faced recalls concerning the AdBlue injector. A documented repair history makes your 308 worth more. Older 1.6 HDi engines without AdBlue are actually robust and easy to maintain.
The recent hybrid versions of the 308 attract a well-heeled audience. A 308 Plug-in Hybrid 180 or 225 combines a 1.6 petrol engine with an electric motor. The electric range is modest, but often sufficient for commuting. Check whether the battery health is still good and whether the on-board computer updates have been carried out. A complete charging history gives the buyer confidence.
The modern EAT8 automatic gearbox from Aisin is considered reliable and increases comfort. In the company car market, an automatic is almost standard. Manual 308s do exist, but they appeal to a smaller group of buyers. Always mention the gearbox in your sales request, because it can quickly make a difference of several hundred euros.
The Peugeot 308 is available as a five-door hatchback and as an estate (SW). Both versions appear in company car fleets, but the SW offers just that little bit more load space. With the rear seats folded, the load volume increases from 610 to more than 1600 litres. For couriers and service companies, that's a plus. As a result, the SW often holds its value better on the used car market, especially in higher trim levels such as Allure or GT. The hatchback is shorter, more agile and perfect for city driving. When valuing the car, we therefore first look at the body style; an SW Allure with a panoramic glass roof can easily fetch several hundred euros more than a base hatchback. So clearly state whether you have the SW version, especially with a diesel, because that combination is very popular with fleet owners.
Anyone putting their Peugeot 308 up for sale has two routes: advertising privately or offering it directly to a buyer. Both choices have pros and cons. Selling privately sometimes yields a higher offer, but requires patience: placing ads, arranging test drives, negotiating and assessing payment risks. On top of that, you need to get the car ready for sale, such as cleaning, minor repairs and inspection. A buyer like Opkoper Bedrijfswagen takes that work off your hands. You receive an immediate offer based on market data and a licence plate check. Within a few days, the car can be collected, with deregistration of the number plate and immediate payment. Especially for cars with damage, high mileage or an expired inspection, this route is often the fastest and most secure.
For every situation
Whether you drive a recent plug-in hybrid or a 308 with 300,000 km on the clock, Opkoper Bedrijfswagen can help. Here are some common scenarios in which we make an offer.
Has your 308 covered more than 200,000 km? No problem. We value the technical condition and maintenance, not just the odometer reading.
A broken turbo, timing chain or engine fault does not reduce the trade-in value to zero. We calculate a realistic residual offer including repair costs.
