Frequently asked questions
The Mercedes C-Class has been a familiar sight on Belgian roads for years, not only as a passenger car but also as a full-fledged company vehicle. Many business owners, sales staff and consultants drive a C-Class because the model combines prestige and comfort with relatively favourable taxation. The monthly benefit-in-kind (BIK) tax for an average C 220 d is lower than you would expect based on the list price, keeping the net picture attractive.
Appearance also plays a role: a company that offers its employees a Mercedes as a lease car radiates success and trust. The C-Class also offers a wide choice of economical diesel variants and increasingly plug-in hybrids, which aligns with the demand for lower CO₂ emissions and associated deductibility. In short, the C-Class is a business all-rounder that satisfies both driver and accountant.
When selling your Mercedes C-Class, whether to a private buyer, a dealer or a car-buying service, the right documents are essential. A complete file not only ensures a smooth transaction but can also positively influence the value of your car.
Although the C-Class is known for being solid, each generation has specific points of attention. By knowing these before you sell, you can better assess a buyer's expectations and possibly have small repairs carried out to increase the value.
W203 (2000-2007): rust is the biggest issue, especially around the wheel arches, under the door edges and on the tailgate. Also check the brake lines and anti-roll bars, which can be prone to wear in this generation.
W204 (2007-2014): on CDI engines with the OM651 engine block, the timing chain is a well-known weak point, especially on early models. Injectors and the particulate filter can also cause expensive repairs. Listen for a rattling noise on a cold start.
W205 (2014-2021): the AdBlue reducer and sensors sometimes cause problems, leading to error messages and higher repair costs. Electrical faults in the Command Online module and driver assistance systems also occur. A full software update can often provide a solution.
There are several ways to sell your Mercedes C-Class, each with pros and cons. Your choice depends on how quickly you want the money, how much effort you're willing to put in, and whether you're aiming for the highest possible price.
A well-prepared car immediately makes a positive impression and can make the difference between a standard offer and a higher bid. Invest a few hours of time and a modest budget, and you'll earn it back double.
